Sunday at Hollywood Cemetery

All Souls DayAll Soul's Day (sometimes called the "Day of the Dead") is always November 2 (November 3rd if the 2nd falls on a Sunday). All Soul's Day is a Roman Catholic day of remembrance for friends and loved ones who have passed away. It is celebrated with masses and festivities in honor of the dead. While the Feast of All Saints is a day to remember the glories of Heaven and those there, the Feast of All Souls reminds us of our obligations to live holy lives and that there will be purification of the souls of those destined for Heaven. In Mexico, this day is referred to as " Los Dias de los Muertos " . In memory of Virgilio Yparraguirre, my father-in-law who passed-away at Glendale Memorial Hospital on September 25, 2001, we visited his grave this afternoon at Hollywood Cemetery. Together with my sister-in-law, Rose Flores with her husband Ed and we all prayed for the repose of his soul and all the dead Christians in purgatory that they may be received into heaven. Liza, champ and myself also stopped by the grave site of Stepan Haytayan, Mr. Leon's Haytayan Dad (Liza's boss) and offered some flowers and prayers.
